Blessings and Curses – This topic has been on my mind for some time, and I am sure it has been in your thoughts at some point of your life…whether that is a conviction of yourself or how you’ve seen others!

James 3:9-10 – With [our tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

Seems simple enough, right?

In this day and age we have so many outlets of communication.  We can talk with someone directly, call them on the phone or text them.  We can Email, send a letter, or Skype call.  We can even send Instant Messages online, send a Tweet, or a Facebook post.  And the list goes on…  So many ways to communicate, but how many of those outlets are being used to share the Good News of Jesus consistently?

We may share an inspirational message on Facebook for our friends to see, or send a Tweet with a Bible verse or a great praise we have for what God has done, but often times it’s the everyday messages we send that really tests where our heart resides.   Out of the heart the mouth Speaks, Tweets and Posts!

When we belong to Jesus, everything we say and do is a reflection of Him.  Who we are, and more importantly Whose we are, is reflected in the posts and conversations we have every day with our friends and in many cases with complete strangers.  When we rant about stuff that is only important to this world, what are we telling our friends about our Lord and Savior?  Or do we really believe that we can compartmentalize our faith life and our life in Christ?

Bottom line – Our faith may be personal, but it’s not meant to be private!  The Good News of Jesus Christ is meant to be shared!  When we begin thinking this way, our worldview shifts to revolve around the only One who matters…Jesus!  His mission for His followers is to go and make disciples.  How?  First, we reflect Jesus character in everything we think, say, and do, and then we get out there and build relationships with everyone He puts in our path.  We begin the conversation, God directs it!  Some conversations may seem to go nowhere, and others will completely amaze you.  It’s all about relationship – God first, and then with others!  With God first, we reflect Jesus’ love to a lost world no matter which avenue of communication we choose!
